Sternaulus has also been used by Miko et al 2007 for the episternal fovea sensu Johnson 1984 based on the observation that the episternal fovea corresponds to the site of origin of the basalare muscle. However, in braconids, the sternaulus marks the border between the basalare muscle and the dorsoventral indirect flight muscle, and thus represents a different concept.
